[There's definitely some...fun textures she's picking out of the rack as she's going through. While the fit meets what he's asking, there's some shiny or metallic fabrics, the occasional sequins or sewn-on shiny accoutrements, and various other mildly out-there options being singled out. Clearly she wasn't kidding about getting him to be daring.]
Well, it might be a good time to ask, they go easier on you when you're new. [She's...probably kidding. Sort of.] Anyway, I ain't friends with that many dudes, but most of the ones I know wear this sorta shit or only slightly more casual, since I know 'em from work. And I gotta wear some pretty wild stuff myself for my job, so I guess I kinda do have an eye for it.
[Working in entertainment often has that effect on people.]
[An eyebrow goes up at the sparkly ones, but he's definitely fine with a few bold colors and some shine. As long as she doesn't introduce him to the concept of crop tops or something, he's fine.
Daring is fine, but absurd he might draw the line at.]
A fair point; I had no idea the disparity was so extreme.
[Then he'll go get a suit after this, he decides, and it will be a nice one. For a moment, he ticks off in his head the things he has yet to buy.]
Do you mind if I ask what kind of work you do? [A pause.] Or... did?
[Kanade shrugs slightly at the question, as if to say she doesn't mind answering without actually having to say that.]
I'm an idol singer mostly, but I also work for the government. Goin' out and whacking supernatural shit the normal military can't deal with, disaster cleanup, that sorta thing. Back home I gotta be all secretive about that part, but here I don't really see the point.
[She's got rules she has to follow about the weapons she uses being classified and not wanting to scare off her fans with the idea that she fights things for an actual living. But here, she doesn't have either of those jobs going again yet, so there's no real issue to her with letting it slip, since she never really hid it for personal reasons.]
But it's the idol part that gave me the weird costuming experience. [Despite her Symphogear not exactly being normal clothing either.]
[He actually has to struggle to bite back a laugh, not at this concept of "idols", but... How funny to see someone speak so openly about being a secret government agent. He's not about to reveal that he's the same, seemingly a forcibly retired soldier turned into a trading company employee, but in actuality a secret weapon of the Crown.
It's... going to his grave with him, as far as he's concerned, unless Mycroft or Victoria shows up and tells him otherwise. His loyalty runs deep.]
What a fascinating life you must've led. I hope that all serves you well here! Or, perhaps doesn't... In a sense. I'd hate to see fighting here unless it's absolutely necessary.
[He smiles, faint and polite.]
It's certainly given you a unique eye for fashion. I'm eager to try those on.
[Kanade's the straightforward type, and since her job didn't necessitate secrecy in the same way as a spy, it led to her just not really being too fussed about it outside of non-disclosure contracts and so on. But she does hum in agreement to Albert's comment on fighting, because while she's half expecting it to happen, she doesn't really want it to.]
Got a bit too jaded by this point to think it's not gonna happen eventually, but it's been okay so far besides what went down last month. [And that was more trying to Sync people down, in the end, since that was what worked best.
After adding a few more things to the selections - some metallics, something glittery and a very loudly embroidered waistcoat, Kanade offers out the...considerable pile.]
Hey, I'm eager to see what they end up lookin' like on a person, I get the feeling some of these are probably better on the rack.
[Kanade eyes Albert up for a moment, like she's thinking on something, before posing a question back to him.]
While you were waitin' to come down here, did anyone on that space station transform? We were dealin' with a real shitshow down here because a bunch of people turned into monsters and then went feral all over the place to boot.
[She hadn't gone feral herself, but that had meant trying to clean things up after the people who had been, and get them back to normal.]
They probably woulda had an easier time of it on the space station because they woulda known to expect it by then. Down here, they just kinda had to lock down and wait it out until the leader of the city could talk to the kid god and sort it out.
[Which gives her hope that it's not going to go that wild again the next time it happens, but who knows with this sort of thing.]
Better than I woulda expected, with how much Malachite's messin' around seems to bother 'em. They locked down durin' the actual transformations since there was also some sky burnin' shit goin' on, but once they came out it all turned into this.
[She gestures broadly around them, referring to the boutique's sales going on at the moment to help out Gembonded.]
All this cheap sellin' or givin' away stuff to try and get us back on our feet again.
They have been pretty generous, this is just a little more generous than usual.
[It's not like they can have Gembonded sales all the time, or it'd probably look like preferential treatment to the locals.]
Guess it depends on your outlook. If somethin' else catastrophic happens before the next group arrives, they might do it again, but I think it's mostly meant to be makin' up for the transformations and feral states and whatever else.

I think you may be correct about that. We shall see how it goes.
[But as an afterthought, he stops on his way back to the dressing room and asks:] What happened last month, if I might ask?
no subject

[That? That happened here? Perhaps this place is a little less innocuous than he'd hoped.]
Many did, and some were violent. Unfortunately... They made it seem like such things were vaguely controlled. How unsettling.

[They were... violent on the ship. He fought a few.]

[Not everyone is going to talk about that in public, especially when whoever did it might not have been in full control of themselves, but still.]

[He smiles faintly.]
How did the locals take it?

[No, he suspected something deeper, but isn't better to play up being kind of uselessly foppish for the moment?]
I'll still take advantage of it, but if they don't extend this to others who may come along... It's unfair, isn't it?
